The Temasek Foundation makes a difference to our communities. It identifies needs and spearheads programmes, to build people, build communities, build capabilities and rebuild lives.
Build a more resilient, harmonious and inclusive society, by uplifting individuals, strengthening families and advancing communities.
Connect people, promote stewardship, and enhance capability and capacity in Singapore and beyond.
Strengthening Families and Communities
Temasek Foundation partnered Tan Tock Seng Hospital to train 160 older volunteers with the CHAMPS Total Knee Replacement Volunteer Programme. They are equipped with para-clinical skills, such as eye drop application, to lend a helping hand to frail but recovering elderly patients. About 13,300 elderly patients are expected to benefit from this pilot programme.
Strengthening Families and Communities
Research has shown that the first three years of a child’s life is the most critical period to laying a strong foundation for their development. KIDS 0-3 provides a tailored community health and social care support system for about 150 mothers from vulnerable backgrounds, from pregnancy until their children are three years old. Through home visitations and centre-based activities, the mothers become better informed and children are exposed to early stimulation, cognitive development and emotional security programmes.
Enhancing Capability and Capacity of Ecosystem
This programme exposes upper primary students with a flair for the arts to artistic activities. Selected students are paired with a group of buddies from School of the Arts who mentor and support them in their school work, artistic interests, and personal growth.
Enhancing Capability and Capacity of Ecosystem
In partnership with NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, these programmes are designed with the aim of encouraging more girls as well as students from humble backgrounds to pursue mathematics and science. The students acquire research and inquiry skills, and an appreciation for math and science through hands-on activities such as building motorised toy cars and learning the physics of flight.
Enhancing Capability and Capacity Regionally
This three-year programme will train 250 healthcare professionals in the areas of maternal and child healthcare in India. In partnership with SingHealth, TATA Trusts, Ministry of Health in India, and the National Health Mission of Madhya Pradesh, the initiative aims to reduce mortality rates in the long run by raising the quality of healthcare standards in maternal and child emergencies.
Building Bridges and Connecting People
150 youths from 14 Asian countries attended a week-long camp with the aim of enhancing cross-cultural understanding. The programme included team bonding games, outdoor adventure activities and a campfire, as well as cultural and heritage visits. Through these activities, participants forged friendships that transcended borders.
Building Bridges and Connecting People
This initiative aims to build a more cohesive society by encouraging deeper interfaith and intercultural understanding among leaders and practitioners of major faiths. Temasek Foundation partnered social enterprise WISEsg for the inaugural four-day programme. Thirty nine participants across ASEAN bonded over shared experiences and gleaned insights from common practices and themes from diverse faiths.
Building Bridges and Connecting People
In collaboration with the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Temasek Foundation organised a scenario planning workshop for young leaders from Indonesia and Singapore working in government bodies, politics, businesses, the military, academia and civil society. Participants were tasked to envision the future of the two countries and the evolving relationship between them by the year 2040. This was also an opportunity for participants to network and form friendships with one another.
Supporting Research and Development
Researchers from Nanyang Technological University tapped on a grant from Temasek Foundation to develop an interactive educational tool to make learning more engaging for children with special needs. Called i-Tile, the tool was designed based on the principles of collaboration, play and physical movement. It was used in a successful pilot involving children with moderate to severe intellectual disability at MINDS Fernvale Gardens School.
Supporting Research and Development
Temasek Foundation co-funded a nation-wide research project led by the Institute of Mental Health in Singapore. Building on the first landmark study published in 2010, this latest research tracked the state of mental health among Singaporeans over time, their associated factors, as well as the population’s help-seeking behaviour. The findings offered knowledge and insight on how Singapore’s mental health landscape has evolved.
Promoting Sustainability
Temasek Foundation funded a project that focuses on producing naturally biodegradable products from biopolymers (polyhydroxyalkanoates or PHA) as an alternative to single-use plastics. Made from renewable sources, the solution is versatile and commercially viable, with varied applications ranging from straws, cups, cutlery, and personal care products. The project was the winner of the Foundation’s inaugural Liveability Challenge, which provides support to commercialise innovative solutions aimed at improving liveability.
Promoting Sustainability
Temasek Foundation supported a three-month pilot study which saw green roofs installed on buses to create mobile green spaces. The green roofs, which are formed by growing plants on ultra-lightweight soil-less matting, act as a protective carpet to shield buses from direct sunlight. The green-roofed buses will help spread awareness of green innovation. Data will be collected to track the reduction in fuel use, interior temperature and energy consumption of the air conditioning systems of these buses.
